The Custom Duchy 35

Cockwells reveal twin-cabin Duchy 35 at 2019 Southampton Boat Show

Cockwells Modern & Classic Boatbuilding is renowned for its beautiful bespoke boats and for the second-to-none service that it provides to its discerning customers.

The Cornish boatyard’s latest customisation of its popular Duchy 35 is no exception. After winning the Wheelhouse and Cockpit Cruisers category of Motor Boat & Yachting magazine’s 2018 Motor Boat of the Year Awards last year, the luxury weekender/family cruiser now also comes with 2 double cabins.

Duchy Motor Launches are classically-designed, handcrafted, semi-production vessels that are created in the Duchy of Cornwall by Cockwells’ skilled craftsmen whose design flair, expertise and exacting standards are beyond compare.

Built in low maintenance composites, Duchy Motor Launches are customarily defined by the seemingly infinite number of optional extras that can be incorporated – from teak decks and leather seating to custom glassware in tailor-made stowage.

Now, an even broader range of customisations revolutionise layout, look and ease of use.

“The Duchy 35 is for cruising and relaxing, and offers unrivalled seakeeping with style,” explains Founder and Managing Director, Dave Cockwell. “The twin cabin layout transforms the boat into a comfortable family cruiser with a galley located in the spacious saloon and two double berths below,” he adds. “The shower compartment offers generous headroom and a full-width electric sunroof enables you to take in panoramic sea views from all-round windows. Your choice of hardwood joinery, electronics, butter-soft leather upholstery and features to enhance your comfort, such as a gyro stabiliser, complete the picture, providing the perfect choice for both nautical novice and seasoned sailor.”

As well as the twin-cabin layout, there are other takes on these modern classics.

A recently-launched Duchy 35 retains its customary navy blue hull but is clad in teak and has a walnut interior, showcasing the exquisite craftsmanship of Cockwells’ artisan boatbuilders. A single touchscreen display offers uncomplicated control of all on-board systems.

The latest Duchy 27 to depart the Mylor Creek Boatyard sports an aqua blue hull and benefits from design changes that result in more storage for fuel and water as well as improved weight distribution and sound-proofing.

Three concepts on the drawing board offer further adaptations for other climates.
A white-hulled Duchy 35 specifically for the Mediterranean offers two sunbeds, fore or aft; an air-conditioned saloon, electric Bimini, easy-access bathing platform and swimming ladder.

A flybridge option offers additional space with further seating for three that converts into sunbeds, a folding Bimini, the convenience of a table that slides out from beneath the helm console and tender storage.

For Scandinavian shores, an aft windlass for bow-to mooring, a pulpit with a gate and a bow passerelle or ladder enhances already excellent manoeuvrability.

“The flexibility of Cockwells’ Duchy Motor Launches drive the popularity of this well-established brand, offering all the benefits of a custom-build without the high-end price tag,” concludes Dave Cockwell. “We can customise your Duchy however you choose so why not visit us at the Southampton Boat Show [Stand M101 in the marina} and explore the possibilities?”

The cost of a standard Duchy 35 without customisation is from £350k plus VAT.

The cost of a standard Duchy 27 without customisation is from £140k plus VAT.

Other models in the series include the Duchy 21 and Duchy 45.
