Type: Pet 55
Pet is the replica of a Bristol Channel Pilot Cutter that is currently in build – a real labour of love.
In the 1960s, Pill shipwright, Dennis Williams was instructed to dismantle Pet, which had been built at Rowles yard in 1905. Dennis had the foresight to take her lines before she was destroyed and subsequently offered the scantlings and offsets to Dave Cockwell in the hope that a replica could be built to preserve her character for posterity.
To date, thanks to information gathered by the Williams family, we have completed the lofting, assembled most of the frames and rebated her 45ft one-piece opepe keel and stem.
Two separate descendants of Pet’s original owner have been in touch and one of them kindly sent us some of the photos that are displayed below. These are a great help in providing missing details so if anyone else out there has photographs of Pet, we would love to see them.
