January 30, 2017 Cockwells’ Duchy 21 shortlisted for Classic Boat award

Cockwells Modern & Classic Boatbuilding, based in Mylor Creek, could win a coveted industry award if local people support them by taking part in a public vote between now and 15 March 2017.

The new model in Cockwells’ popular Duchy Motor Launch series – the Duchy 21 – that was unveiled at the 2016 Southampton Boat Show to mark the company’s twentieth anniversary has been shortlisted in the Powered Vessels under 40ft category of the 2017 Classic Boat Awards.

The Classic Boat Awards recognise outstanding craftsmanship and all you need to do to cast your vote is log onto www.classicboat.co.uk/awards2017, select the Powered Vessels under 40ft category and Cockwells’ Duchy 21.

The Duchy 21 has been shortlisted because it combines the artisan skills of the shipwright and a design based on a traditional Cornish harbour launch ‘with every mod con known to man,’ which neatly summarises why Cockwells’ boats stand out from the crowd.

Duchy Motor Launches are classically-designed, handcrafted, semi-production vessels that are created in the Duchy of Cornwall by Cockwells’ skilled craftsmen whose design flair, expertise and exacting standards are second-to-none.

With her ample cockpit space for up to ten guests, the Duchy 21 has been created specifically for spending quality time on the water with friends and family, and offers the perfect platform for cruising and relaxing; for day trips and picnics.

Swimming is made easier with a ladder that seamlessly aligns with the cockpit’s central steps. Waterproof cushions can be added to create a forward double sunbed so that you can dry off in style. The sunbed can be converted into a spacious overnight double berth or a fully-enclosed cockpit when skies turn grey with ingenious sprayhoods that have been deftly engineered to disappear when not in use to preserve the Duchy 21’s sleek appearance. Whether you prefer to prepare a gourmet picnic on board and dine al fresco or transport it ashore by unlocking the built-in hamper from the back of the helm, modern luxury and convenience are at your fingertips.

“We are delighted to have been shortlisted in this prestigious industry awards scheme and hope that the public will support us by voting for the Duchy 21,”

comments Founder & Managing Director, Dave Cockwell. “If you are after the polished styling and relaxed handling of a custom build without the high-end price tag, there is no better boat on the market. From custom-made stainless steel fittings and choice of timber for the interior joinery to the upholstery fabric and any number of optional extras, we go through every detail with you to ensure that your Duchy 21 is exactly how you want it to be – a classic day boat for a modern world that chimes perfectly with your way of life.”

Built in low-maintenance composites and powered by either diesel engine or electric motor, the highly versatile Duchy 21 is a capable sea-going boat that is also ideal for inland waters. She can be towed on a road trailer and launched almost anywhere – at the coast, or on the river, fjord or lake.

Winners of the Classic Boat Awards 2017 will be announced in the May issue of Classic Boat magazine, which is published on 7 April 2017.
