December 21, 2022 Cockwells Sells First Duchy 35 Down Under

Acclaimed British boatbuilder, Cockwells Modern & Classic Boatbuilding, has sold its first Duchy Motor Launch in Australia.

The Company has extended its global reach yet further by appointing Davis Marine Brokerage as its exclusive dealer in Australia, which has brokered the sale of a Duchy 35 Motor Launch.

Duchy Motor Launches combine the classical lines of the gentleman’s launch of generations past with polished styling and modern luxury. Ranging from 21ft to 60ft, these stylish vessels can be customised with any number of optional extras to create a cruising environment that is unique to each owner, whether sailing on lakes, canals, fjords, or open water.

Cockwells is currently in the process of customising this Duchy 35 specifically for Antipodean adventures with the continent’s climate and seafaring conditions in mind. This first model to be sold in Australia will be berthed at Roseville Bridge Marina, where Davis Marine Brokerage is based, within Sydney’s iconic harbour.

The Duchy 35’s tried and tested design offers every conceivable comfort, whether you are absorbing the sun’s rays from the full cockpit sunbed, or in the shade, reclining on the daybed in the spacious air-conditioned saloon.

Twin V8 Yanmar diesel engines and a Seakeeper gyro stabiliser provide a smooth and stable ride, even in choppier conditions, whilst a long-range fuel tank, generator, autopilot and radar provide you with all the high-end technical equipment that you will need for sailing greater distances.

If you prefer day-boating in Melbourne or Sydney, there is plenty of space for luxury lunches and socialising, a generously-sized swim platform if you fancy taking a dip to cool down, and all the 21st century convenience of remote connectivity systems if you want to flick on the air conditioning before you return aboard from enjoying a delicious barbecue on the beach.

“Our Duchy Motor Launches resonate with the Australian market because they are the ultimate in British handcrafted quality and can be customised specifically to cater for its climate and conditions,” explains Founder & Managing Director, Dave Cockwell. “For example, instead of finishing with timber, which is challenging to preserve in intense sunshine, we can replace it with fibreglass, aluminium and glass, with Flexiteek decking and highlights, to minimise maintenance, maximise pleasure and maintain aesthetic.”

“With an extensive client network and a decade of experience, Davis Marine is a well-known brokerage with a proven track record of connecting the right buyers with the right boats,” Dave Cockwell adds. “Sam and the team have assisted hundreds of clients through the sales process and won the respect and friendship of many buyers and sellers for delivering results. We look forward to this new collaboration and to welcoming more owners to the Cockwells family from the opposite side of the world.”

“Growing up on the Cornish coast, sailing family yachts and motorboats, working as a marina berthing assistant in Mylor Yacht Harbour and skippering yachts for an exclusive private hotel, my love of boating began at an early age,” concludes Sam Davis, Director at Davis Marine Brokerage. “Whether it be surfing it, sailing it, or painting it, I have always been around the water and to return to the village I grew up in, to work with Cockwells and have the privilege of selling their prestigious vessels in Australia is the perfect fit and a real honour.”
